A Letter to Kenya

U.S. Protest Over Kenyan ViolenceU.S. Protest Over Kenyan ViolenceInternational diplomacy takes on many strange forms- not only are you requesting things from people with a different language, background, culture and set of priorities, but you are asking for things based on your own goals, not theirs, even if you do have their best interests in mind. Add onto that the fact that everyone has different ways of asking for things, and of granting or denying those requests and all of the sudden you’ve got a challenge bigger than you could ever have imagined- and that’s international diplomacy: to start.

What About Cutting Money Emissions?

Follow the MoneyFollow the MoneyWhatever the G20 decides on is what’s going to happen with the UN- this is my prediction for not only the remainder of the year and the Copenhagen summit, but for the future of climate change negotiations in general. The G20 are the big guys, the ones with the influence and, most importantly, the ones with the money- this is the meeting where all the industrialized countries will figure out what to say to the developing nations and what they are willing to offer in the way of emissions allowances and financial aid for climate change- caused issues.

Follow the money and you get your answers. And this time around, it looks like the money isn’t going to try anything too novel- a little more pushing it back to the next generation if you ask me.

A Day of Embarrassment and Stupidity in the World of Politics and the Health Care Debate

Add Comment

What could have been described as the day of bad speech hell, the political stage yesterday offered long winded rants, economic ignorance, ill informed Senators, sleeping on the job, and a recommendation for those who can not afford health care that will not be winning any humanitarian awards any time soon.

Senator BunningSenator BunningOn the health care reform front, the debate taking place on Capitol Hill yesterday that went late into the night, has proven to be a bit of an embarrassment for more than a few of Washington's “finest”. Starting with the Republican Senator from Kentucky, Jim Bunning, who decided that he was going to fight hard to keep the American people from getting health care coverage by... falling asleep on the job, literally.

No Peace in the MidEast

Looking for an answer on the Gaza borderLooking for an answer on the Gaza borderAs if healthcare, the financial crisis and climate change weren’t enough, Obama is in the middle east pushing for a renewed fervor around the peace process- it doesn’t seem to be going any smoother there than it is over here according to Reuters.

James Besser of Jewish Week wrote that 16 years ago Yasser Arafat and Yitzhak Rabin shook hands at the White House and “there was a sense among most mainstream Jewish leaders that the long Israel-Palestinian impasse could soon be broken." Well, that was 16 years ago. Now there is a “new consensus crystallizing that says that the status quo is about the best that can be hoped for."

Right Wing Lies About Health Care

Obama protestObama protestWe have watched the debate raging in the US over healthcare reform with a kind of puzzlement here in the UK. The level of propaganda and barefaced lying from the Republican right is beyond belief. Watching redneck idiots who would actually benefit from free healthcare holding up banners protesting the idea was just bizarre and a bit sad. Anyone who can compare Obama with Hitler, because he wants to provide healthcare for people who can’t afford it, is beyond help.

Sarah PalinSarah PalinSarah Palin, the failed Vice Presidential hopeful, attempted to make her move on the international stage today without much of a splash. Palin, who apparently did not get the hint during her disastrous defeat in the 2008 when she, by many accounts, helped to sink McCain's grab for the White House seems to think that she still has some hope of a political career and is apparently trying gain some sense of credibility for the next presidential elections

Let's Convert the Straight Republicans!

Republican Sex ScandalRepublican Sex ScandalThe problem for straight Republicans (and far too many of their Democratic counter-parts) is that they don't when to keep it in their pants. The members of C-Street can pray all they want, but they don't seem to get rid of their sexual "needs" and/or "wants" any better than anybody else. In fact, the "mighty and the Powerful" seem to have just that extra dose of testosterone that not only makes them have affairs, it makes them have affairs and stupidly brag about it to the national or local media.
