The GOP Blame Steele Game

Add Comment

As if we didn't know, the GOP is getting ready to blame the black guy.

The Huffington Post, which keeps an eye and an ear out for these things, reports that the GOP is looking for a scapegoat. If the Republicians don't do as well as they expect in the mid-term elections, the long knives are going to come out and some poor goat is going to be last week's news.

The Huffington Post -- "A number of GOP operatives are gearing up to blame RNC Chair Michael Steele, if the Republicans under-perform in this year's midterms. The RNC's recent anemic fundraising report is only aggravating the GOP's thirst for Steele blood."

Boycotting Target

Add Comment

Folks concerned about the Supreme Court's notorious 5-4 decision, which makes it possible for corporations, foreign owned and controlled ones too, to buy, to purchase, to acquire politicians and political parties, wholesale, by giving them bribes, I mean, campaign contributions, have jumped on the "Boycott Target" bandwagon, as a way to send a strong message to corporations, that if they want to play the partisan political game, they had better be ready for the consequence, which could be a consumer boycott of their product.

The Target Corporation made a substantial cash contribution, $150,000, to a political PAC, which supports a right-wing, anti-gay rights, political candidate for Governor of the Target Corporation's headquarters state, Minnesota.

MoveOn.org has joined in the boycott of the Target Corporation and has placed a 'Boycott Target' ad on the Internet. See the video.

Fox News Shows True Colors, Yet Again

Add Comment

The objectivity of Fox News continues to come into question, and it comes through in its parent companies actions as they cut a $1 million dollar check to the Republican Governors Association.  According to CNN, Democratic Governors Association executive director Nathan Daschle wrote, "I request that you add a formal disclaimer to your news coverage any time any of your programs cover governors or gubernatorial races between now and Election Day," and went on to say, "[…]If you do not add a disclaimer, I request that you and your staff members on the 'fair and balanced' side of the network demand that the contribution be returned."

Sarah Palin Doesn’t Speak for All Mama Grizzlies

Add Comment

Recently, Sarah Palin used her common tactic of simple metaphors mixed with animals and third grade vocabulary words to highlight her presence and that of her soccer mom followers, whom she now refers to as “mama grizzlies.” She says that when their cubs are threatened, mama grizzlies attack—which, I think, is a valid point. Unlike many of the other strange things she’s tried to claim as fact, this is true; if you mess with the cub, you mess with the mama.

However, if translating said metaphor toward a more developed species—in this case, humans—it doesn’t work the same way. If a mama bear’s cubs become human boys and girls, bringing out the claws and teeth get trickier.

Ain't No Time for Fighting

Less than ninety days before the mid-terms, and key and vital elections, is not the time for fighting. Too often when Democrats lose, political fighting is an internal affair. When an army gets ready to go into combat, the general staff doesn't start shooting at the troops.

Meg Whitman: Yellow Line Dancing

Add Comment

When one represents the extreme, it is hard to dance away from the extremes.

The rich money lady, Billionaire Meg Whitman, Republican candidate for Governor of California. Oh, what will money buy. She is on her way to spending the moon for the governor's chair. But, if Lady Billion Dollars manages to snatch it away, the price will be cheap, because the lady wants to be President. First gov, then pres. She is ready to pay the stars for the White House.

Sarah Palin is Small

Palin Looks Pretty Small

I really hadn't noticed how small Sarah Palin is. She stopped to confront a person in her home state who had a really big banner that said of the Alaska half-term governor, that she was the worst governor ever. Maybe Sarah Palin thinks people love her, with the exception of a few misguided liberals, so she stopped to chat with the protester. She did look relaxed. Her crew, her daughter and hubby, looked very much not at all relaxed, and another guy, who maybe is a body guard, looked as if he wanted to shut down the camera recording the encounter.

In the video, Ms. Palin seems to be seeking a dialogue, until she discovers that she she is talking to a teacher, whom obviously, is many times smarter than Palin.

Technology and Politics

Add Comment

This is a message for everyone in Washington- it’s not quite a Manifesto, but it is a laundry list of what I think are opportunities that should become imperatives in the near future. The gulf between Washington’s operations and the way they use Technology is criminal. Look at the ideals we had as a nation when we were founded, of Democracy and Freedom of Speech and connecting people across cultural, racial, ethnic and ethical divides, and you will see that we have a huge opportunity to fight, learn, agree, disagree, and be heard on social media. And listen, of course, which is the biggest thing that Congress and the rest of Washington needs to do.

Going to sue the rascal.

Shirley Sherrod the former employee at the Agriculture Department, who was the target of vicious libel, spearhead by right-wing blogger Andrew Breibart, and spread by a network of wing-nuts in the right-wing media, which includes Fox Cable News, says she is going to sue. She is going to sue Andrew Breibart, who has a history of libeling people with whom he disagrees, politically. Ms. Sherrod will attempt to hold Mr. Breibart accountable for his recklessness.

Yesterday at the National Association of Black Journalists' convention in San Diego, Ms Sherrod announced her intent to sue Mr Breibart and she had no kind words for Fox News.
