House Democrats will keep their leadership team in tact, which is the best solution to a non problem. The goal of the leadership is to defend the Democratic agenda and to regain control of the House in the next election. The leaders should be able to do this by leading the fight, rallying the troops and gathering the resources, human and financial, necessary to accomplish the goal.
The New York Times reports that late Friday night the top House Democrats settled on an arrangement that will do just this, that "Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she would nominate Representative James E. Clyburn of South Carolina to be the No. 3 Democrat when the party holds an internal party election on Wednesday."
Representative Steny H. Hoyer of Maryland, will remain the No. 2 Democrat in the House.
This is just common sense. One does not let structure hinder function. One changes the structure to fit the organization's needs. This is what the Democrats in the House are doing.
